3 Top Tips to boost your Wellbeing

Lifestyle changes don’t need to be complicated, in fact, the simpler the better for making effective improvements to your wellbeing.

Leading occupational health provider, Medigold, has identified three simple habits to follow on a daily basis. Try them for 4 weeks and see how much better you feel:

1. Get Walking

Recent research has found that 30 minutes of brisk walking – the easiest way to achieve ‘moderate intensity’ exercise – each day is more effective than any other form of exercise for keeping weight down.

How do you tell whether you are walking briskly enough? Experts say that you can tell if you have reached ‘moderate intensity’ exercise if you can still talk, but you are unable to sing the words to a song.

As well as the physical benefits of walking, Bristol University research found that:

72% of walkers surveyed reported improvements in time management
79% said mental and interpersonal performance was better
74% said they managed their workload better.

2. Switch off your smartphone after 9pm

For a good night’s sleep, don’t use your smartphone or other devices after 9pm, especially for work. Doing so disrupts your sleep because:

a) The blue light emitted impairs the release of melatonin, a hormone in the brain which causes us to feel sleepy.
b) Psychologically, working late in the evening prevents the mind from winding down and relaxing in preparation for sleep.

3. Eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day

Our energy levels dictate not only what we can do but how well we do it. And, to maintain optimum energy levels requires a healthy balanced diet.

It’s worth encouraging employees to make lifestyle changes too

Improving workplace health

Paying more attention to the physical health and fundamental needs of staff and encouraging them to make such lifestyle changes can make a big difference to general health in the workplace. If your employees are looking after themselves well they are more likely to meet targets and less likely to take time off due to stress and anxiety.
